Even though we receive 10-15 threats yearly, it is uncommon for a Hurricane to actually make landfall in the Southern Baja peninsula, particularly in Los Cabos. Hurricane season here typically runs June through October, with a couple getting close enough to bring our area all the rain it gets during the year.

Hurricane Odile was heading away from Los Cabos, as do most hurricanes, only to turn back, bringing us a direct hit. A category 3 hurricane, turned Category 4 as it stuck ground causing devastation to the area.

With a majority of hotels now open, (although several still have many rooms closed) the area is recuperating well. Tour and activity companies have done their best to get ready to offer services to the public. Los Cabos pulled together to ensure the area was ready to receive tourism.

Zip-Lines, bungee Jumping, ATV tours, Camel rides, Parasailing, Scuba Diving, Golf, Whale Watching, snorkelling, sunset tours, Restaurants and Bars, along with everything else that makes Los Cabos our favourite travel destination is back up and running.

October and November brought us some very successful fishing tournaments, including the Bisbee Offshore, Bisbee Black & Blue and the Western Outdoor News Tuna Jackpot, to name a few.

The golf courses most definitely enjoyed the rain on the greens and fairways, however a lot of damage was caused to the watering systems. The weeks following Hurricane Odile with plenty of sun and high temperatures dried out the majority of golf courses in the area. With watering systems destroyed on Cabo Real, and Palmilla, along with parts of Puerto Los Cabos, these course will take time to come back to the spectacular lush courses they once were.

Although many of the clubhouses were hit hard, and remain damaged The courses have been putting in a lot of effort to be back for the current high season. Puerto Los Cabos is even moving forward with the addition of their next 9 holes.

All courses are currently open (a couple still a little brown on the fairways), except Palmilla, which should open mid March. You will notice some interesting things the next time you play however. With many courses vegetation has been changed significantly, offering ocean views from many locations that never had them before.

Two new courses have even opened since Hurricane Odile. The long awaited first course designed by Tiger Woods, El Cardonal, and the even longer awaited golf course at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Quivira.

I typed this “youtube golf instruction” into google search engine, and it came back with “About 46,100,000 results (0.25 seconds)”.  Narrow it down…  “youtube golf stop slicing” came back with “About 972,000 results (0.26 seconds)”  I can’t go wrong.

I must admit, I have followed a few suggestions from the likes of Mark Crossfield (accent’s a bit posh, but what do you expect from a Brit)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kICRZpwvEls     Some good and some nothing to do with my problems, at least that’s what I think.

Is the teaching Professional Redundant?  Well, every Pro on tour has one, so I guess they’re still useful right?

I have found some of the greatest golfing tips, tricks, gimmicks, and of course training aids that exist!  With all this info right at my finger tips, I’ll be dropping strokes of my handicap in no time right!!???  Still, having someone there to watch you try the new tips, or someone who can understand what you just recorded on your iPhone app is invaluable.

Even with all the books, training videos, training gimmicks, Blog tips, etc out there, you have to get out there and do it.  So do it in style with the Batmobile!!!

I think the hardest thing we find as golfers is…  We’re impatient and we want to play, not practice.  Practice is that 15 mins hitting balls before we play right?

I know exactly what’s wrong with my swing, I just need to find the right Youtube video to help me.  Golf is an expensive sport, and sometimes you when you do go see a Pro, they try to fit you in the shoebox and try to change your entire game.  Lets face it, we’re not all built alike.  Not everybody can have a textbook swing.  Often times you come away from a lesson playing worse than ever!  What a waste of money.

At the end of the day, a good Pro who can work with you regularly is the best way to really improve your game.  You have to practice what you learn also.  There’s no use going to a Pro, taking a lesson and the next time you hit the course is for your next lesson.  Practice what they teach, create good muscle memory & don’t forget the putter.

But hey, at the end of the day, if you can’t put in 3 or more rounds a week, don’t expect to play in the single digits.  Play off the right Tee Box, and enjoy the game.
